Luke Grande, bien conocido como Luky es el mismo de Los Astrolabios, quien compuso y cantó los temas de su primer disco Todo es Rosa. Luego de que la banda se disolviera en el 2000, se toma cuatro años para entrar a grabar un segundo disco: Bienvenida la Utopía ahora con su nueva banda “Luky”, de nuevo como Productor musical y ejecutivo.
También ha protagonizado varias películas, entre ellas Caracas Amor a Muerte, Maroa, etc., exhibidas en importantes festivales internacionales como el de Biarritz, Miami, San Juan o Cannes, haciéndose acreedor por una de ellas del Premio Municipal de Actuación 2006. Incluso compuso e interpretó (junto a Los Astrolabios) el tema de la película homónima Piel.
Entre tanto durante casi cinco años forma parte en guitarra y voz de la banda tributo Los Beat3, triunfadora en el Beatle Week Festival de la ciudad de Liverpool, y realiza con ellos una breve gira por La Habana, Maracay y Bogotá junto a la Orquesta Sinfónica de Aragua.
Desde el año 2006 Luky participa en los tres musicales más exitosos hechos en Venezuela, El Violinista Sobre el Tejado, Los Productores y Jesucristo Súper Estrella donde encarna a un inolvidable Judas.
Además ha sido imágen publicitaria para distintas marcas en Latinoamérica y anfitrión de programas para T.V., algunos transmitidos en varios países del Continente, incluyendo a Estados Unidos, Brazil y México.
Su carrera como músico y actor la comienza a la temprana edad de 6 años, formándose artísticamente desde entonces hasta debutar profesionalmente en 1996. Complementa su polifacética pasión mediatica con la locución, conduciendo desde hace más de 7 años diversos programas de radio en la Gran Caracas.
Por todo esto y mucho más Luky es, sin lugar a dudas un venezolano comprometido en su amor a la cultura y entregado a su pasión por el Arte, íntegro en toda su extensión..!
Hola Luky cómo estás? Qué vas a hacer más tarde hoy?
Bien (gracias a Dios). Ahora más tarde chequearé mis correos electrónicos y daré un paseo por mis comunidades virtuales, ya que es tarde en la noche y luego de un día agotador pretendo dormir un poco antes de comenzar una nueva jornada mañana temprano.
Luky, es evidente que eres extrovertido desde pequeño en la escuela.
Me contaron que en clases alguien te dijo que "actuas como un bebé" y tu sin timidez alguna, te acostastes en el piso y moviendo los brazos y piernas como un bebé balbuceabas cosas inentendibles tal como un recien nacido. La clase soltó la carcajada.
Te acuerdas de algo en específico, de alguna anecdota en especial del colegio?
Wow, había olvidado ese episodio del bebé jajaja..! Recuerdo muchos momentos hermosos que compartí con gente hermosa, dentro de la cual cuento hoy a mis más íntimos amigos. Recuerdo mi primer grupo entre los 13 y 14 años: "Kaos Kriollo". También mi performance de Tiresias (el profeta) en una escena de Edipo Rey para la clase de literatura sobre tragedia griega en 4to año de humanidades (liberal arts). Fue entonces cuando la profesora vaticinó mi futuro profesional.
¿Extrañas el colegio? Si es así.. qué extrañas? Cómo lo compararías como tu vida y la sociedad hoy en día? Qué deberíamos tener en mente?
Claro que extraño el colegio, sus espacios llenos de opciones para desarrollarse física, intelectual y espiritualmente. También la comunidad ignaciana forjada con valores jesuíticos que estimulan el liderazgo en cada episodio de nuestras vidas, para aplicarlos a fin de mejorar nuestras sociedades, nuestras comunidades, logrando cada día con nuestro trabajo y ejemplo honrar la obra del Creador en la Tierra.
¿Cómo influenció tu tiempo estudiando en el colegio tu actuación?
Fueron años y espacios de libertad, incluso dentro de un marco de escolaridad, en los que pude explorar mi creatividad, bien dibujando o escribiendo para publicaciones e instituciones, como también actuando, cantando y tocando guitarra o cuatro en actos extra curriculares. En todo momento fui estimulado tanto por los profesores como por los compañeros, quienes cuando no participaban colaborando directamente conmigo (o yo con ellos), lo hacían apoyándome como público. Todo esto generó en mí un nivel de confianza, dentro del campo artístico y cultural, que sentó las bases de lo que hoy día constituye mi carrera profesional y la certeza de tener un don particular para desarroyarla.
¿Qué libros has leído que te han ayudado en la actuación?
Cada libro que leo es un mundo que me aporta imágenes y elementos creacionales. En cuanto a método, Un Actor se Prepara de Konstanstin Stanislavsky es una herramienta de consulta infalible para cualquier actor, sea novato o veterano en el arte escénico.
Sabemos que tienes experiencia en la composición de canciones. Alguna vez has escrito algun guión o alguna historia? ¿Tienes en tus planes futuros algo referente a ésto? Algunas ideas guardadas para un momento especial?
Aún no he comenzado a escribirlo, salvo algunas ideas aisladas. En éstos momentos de mi vida estoy atravesando un período de transición importante que involucra a mi familia, a mis amigos y a todo mi entorno. Es un hecho del cual sin lugar a dudas me gustaría escribir a fin de relatar, ilustrar y compartir mi experiencia personal con miles de venezolanos, latinoamericanos y personas en el mundo entero que en algún instante de sus vidas seguramente sintieron que han recibido una segunda oportunidad e intuyen que ya no son profetas en su propia tierra, por lo cual exploran la posibilidad de convertirse en ese éxodo que busca, a cualquier costo, la tierra prometida.
Tu vida es agitada y tus días aparentemente pasan a millón.
¿Cómo tomas tus decisiones en cuanto a papeles y oportunidades que se te presentan entre tanto correr?
En cuanto a papeles y oportunidades que se me presentan, son decisiones que por lo general tomo de manera apresurada puesto que este es un medio muy competido y volátil, cargado de temperamentalidad en todos los estratos de su estructura humana, y en ocasiones no resultan ser las más adecuadas a mis necesidades en cuanto a la relación precio-valor. Por otro lado resulta que las opciones no abundan y uno debe aprovechar el chance que se presenta. Muchas veces la gratificacón artística no está directamente relacionada a la compensación económica, pero cuando ésto ocurre es efectivamente una bendición.
Otra vez, entre tanto agite. Eres músico compositor y productor, eres actor y tienes que aprender libretos, trabajas en propagandas y comerciales de TV, además tienes un programa en la radio, y por supuesto; tu familia. ¿Cómo haces para llevar todo a cabo en una ciudad como Caracas? y estar con tu familia?
Con Fe, sin prisa pero sin pausa. Viviendo el día a día evitando caer en la desesperanza, lo cual es común entre las colas interminables de Caracas, la inseguridad personal, la inflación económica, la hostilidad entre los habitantes en las calles y la violencia político-mediática que se vive actualmente en Venezuela. Todo esto conforma y confirma el testimonio de que simplemente existir es definitivamente un milagro maravilloso.
Describe un día en la vida de Luke grande.
Es difícil describir un día estándar en mi vida porque mi trabajo no es rutinario, salvo dos horas entre 3 y 5 de la tarde de lunes a viernes cuando realizo mi programa de radio "La Hora del Burro", una guardia musical por Hot 94.1 FM (www.laquemanda.com.ve). A veces estoy realizando algún casting, ensayando ó tocando con mi banda de tributo a The Beatles "Los Beat3". Otras veces estoy actuando en algún espectáculo musical o en alguna película. De resto estoy cooperando en las tareas del hogar. Cuando tengo algún tiempo por las noches, cuando todos duermen, cojo mi guitarra y comienzo a componer algo ó a terminar alguna canción que me esté dando vueltas en la cabeza.
Algún tipo de ritual? de religión que te ayuda? Alguna adición?
¿un traguito antes de entrar al escenario?
Antes de entrar a escena me gusta calentar mi voz y mi cuerpo con algunos ejercicios prácticos. Luego hay un instante de concentración y relajación en el que pido a Dios que se manifiesten sus dones a través de mí para su gloria y el beneplácito del público y los compañeros. También bebo mucha agua temperatura ambiente.
Jesucristo SuperStar...
tu actuación como Judas fue reconocido por tu mímica, tu vocalización y expresión en la escena. ¿Te comparas de alguna manera con Judas y la historia del Catolicísmo?. ¿Qué partes de Judas podrías igualar contigo mismo. Reflejas Judas y la sociedad donde vives? y Jesucristo y la sociedad?
Es irónico que siendo fan de la obra JC Superstar desde niño y habiéndome formado con los Jesuítas, me haya tocado ser
Judas. Esto lo fui digiriendo mientras me acercaba al personaje gnóstico que plantea el controversial y redescubierto evangelio según Judas.
Sin embargo por cuestiones de sanidad mental procuro dejar claro el límite entre el personaje y el actor, aunque cuesta porque la intensidad que se requiere para darle vida y la energía que demanda el espectáculo musical se apoderan de mí prácticamente durante toda la temporada que dure el montaje del show.
Por otro lado es frecuente ver como el propio presidente de Venezuela se identifica con Jesucristo y lo usa como bandera para su causa política mientras que etiqueta de Judas a todo el que manifiesta una tendencia de pensamiento contraria a su revolución. Esto dice mucho del poder y la fuerza mediática de ambos personajes de la historia bíblica.
Justo antes de empezar la actuación Jesucristo SuperStar. ¿Cómo se preparaban todos antes de entrar en escena? Qué hacen Karina, Johny y tú antes de entrar en acción?
Antes de comenzar la obra nos conectamos en un círculo energético todos los involucrados en el espectáculo, desde el elenco hasta los tramoyistas. El director nos da sus más recientes notas y acotaciones así como algunas palabras de aliento. Luego escoge a alguien del grupo para darnos la bendición y contar hasta tres para así todos juntos lanzar un grito de guerra al unísono, que comprende la palabra clave y clásica empleada en teatro que es "mierda" en vez de "suerte" junto al nombre de la obra que estemos presentando.
Cuando el Director M. Hausmann y Productor Y. Rosemberg de Jesucristo SuperStar te hicieron el casting para Judas, ¿Qué tuvistes en mente de mostrarles a ellos? Algún papel que representastes en el pasado lo utilizastes para este casting?
Yo les envié unas fotos donde parecía un apóstol si no Jesús y les mostré un cortometraje que me acreditó el premio municipal de actuación ("Sed en Los Pies"). Ellos ya conocían mi carrera como cantautor de Luky & Los Astrolabios (banda con la que ganamos el festival nacional más importante de pop-rock en 1997 y con la que editamos el disco "Todo es Rosa" como Los Astrolabios en el 2000 para luego disolvernos), luego como Luky solo con el disco Bienvenida La Utopía. También sabían de mi trabajo como actor por mis roles en el cine (Caracas Amor a Muerte, Piel, Maroa, Miranda).
Sin embargo, lo que me pidieron Hausmann y Rosemberg junto al director musical Salomón Lerner para audicionar, fue que cantara la canción "Oh! Darling" de Los Beatles.
¿Qué tal Hausmann y Rosenberg como personas, y el trabajar con ellos? Son metódicos y técnicos en su dirección?.. o te dan libertad de ser creativo. De ser el Luky que conocemos de naturaleza experimental?
Rosemberg sólo se encarga de la producción por lo que no se involucra en lo concerniente a la interpretación. Ciertamente Hausmann quien si se encarga de dirigir todo el espectáculo, es una persona muy metódica y con un justo conocimiento de causa al abordar una obra. No obstante, es suficientemente flexible a la hora de examinar alguna propuesta que yo le plantée puesto que existe el respeto a mi experiencia y capacidad, la cual él sabe que pongo siempre al servicio del montaje, comprometido 100% con el personaje que interpreto. Por supuesto igualmente pasamos muchas horas dedicadas al ensayo y a la lectura de la pieza, por lo que al momento de estrenar ya se ha depurado la forma expresiva que le doy finalmente al rol que me asignan. Esto deja un espacio finito y muy comedido para las improvisaciones.
¿Qué tal son Karina y Johny? ¿Alguna cosa que aprendistes de ellos?
Karina y Johnny son excelentes compañeros, enormemente profesionales y con gran talento, ambos poseen voces prodigiosas y este roce lo enriquece definitivamente a uno como artista, pues la idea es retroalimentarse con la entrega del otro a fin de incrementar el nivel del espectáculo. Todo esto resulta entonces en un aprendizaje constante.
¿Cuál lugar vas para retraerte un poco de tu profesión, del día a día?
El lugar donde me retraigo de mi profesión, es mi hogar, mi refugio. Es el espacio donde se equilibran mis energías.
Ultimo, resúmenos una frase, un consejo a los nuevos artistas alla afuera incursionando en el mundo del teatro y la actuación en general.
Más que un consejo es una invitación a todo el que sienta que el arte corre en sus venas y late en su corazón, a que se deje llevar por esa palpitación hasta encontrar su espacio en el teatro, la música, la pintura, la danza. Que sea auténtico y genuino en su expresión. Sólo con la honestidad de nuestras acciones dejamos traslucir el alma y permitimos a los demás conectarse con nosotros en escencia a través de la forma.

Luke Grande, known as Luky of Astrolabios, who composed and sang the themes of his first album Todo de Rosa (Everything is pink). After the band broke up in 2000, it takes four years to get to record a second album: Bienvenido la Utopía (Welcome to Utopia), now with his new band "Luky" produced by himself.
He has also starred in several films, including Caracas Amor a Muerte (Love to Death), Maroa, exhibited in major international festivals such as Biarritz, Miami, San Juan and Cannes, credited with the Municipal Performance Award 2006. He also composed and performed (with Astrolabios) the theme song for the film Piel (Skin).
Meanwhile, for nearly five years he sings and plays guitar for the Beatles tribute band called Beat3, triumphant in the Beatle Week Festival City Liverpool, touring around Havana, Maracay and Bogotá with the Aragua Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2006 Luky participates in the three most successful musical acts in Venezuela, Fiddler on the Roof, The Producers and JesusChrist SuperStar where he performs as an unforgettable Judas.
Luke has also been the branding image for several brands in Latin America and host of TV programs, some broadcast in several countries of America, including the United States, Brazil and Mexico.
His career as a musician and actor begins at the age of 6 years, and he's been debuting professionally since 1996. Luke complements his multifaceted passion as radio host of several radio programs in Great Caracas.

Luky Hello how are you? What are you doing later today?
Well, thank God. Now later I'll check my emails and I'll take a walk through this virtual communities. It is late at night and after a stressful day I intend to get some sleep.
Luky, you're an extrovert since you were a child in school.Someone told me that during a class in school a classmate told you "act like a baby" and then you laid down on the floor and started moving your arms and legs babbling like an infant. The class laughed.
Do you remember something specific, some anecdotes from school?
Wow, I had forgotten that episode of the baby hahaha ..! I remember many beautiful moments I shared with great people, today some are my closest friends. I remember my first rock band between 13 and 14 years: "Kaos Kriollo. I remember my performance in Tiresias (the prophet) in a scene from Oedipus the King for the Literature class in school (liberal arts). That was when the professor predicted my future career.
Do you miss school? If so .. What do you miss the most? How would you compare it with your life today? What should we keep in mind?
Sure I miss school, its spaces filled with options to develop physically, intellectually and spiritually. Ignatian community forged with Jesuit values (San Ignatius school in Caracas, Venezuela) that encourage leadership at every episode of our lives, to apply it to improve our societies, our communities, making our every day work to honor the example of the Creator on Earth.
How did your time at school have influenced your acting techniques?
There were years and spaces of freedom, even within school I could explore my creativity, either drawing or writing for publications and institutions, as well as acting, singing and playing guitar or cuatro in extracurricular events. At all times I was encouraged both by teachers and by peers who support me as the public. All this generated in me a confidence level within the arts and culture, which laid the groundwork for what I am today, my career and the certainty of having a special gift for unfoldment.
What books have you read that have helped you in acting?
Every book I read is a world that gives me pictures and creational elements. As for method, An Actor Prepares by Stanislavsky Konstanstin is a foolproof tool for any actor, whether you are novice or veteran in the performing arts.
We know you have experience in songwriting. Have you ever written any script or a story? Got something in your future plans regarding this? Some ideas saved for a special occasion?
I have not yet begun to write, except for some isolated ideas. In these moments of my life I am going through a major transition period that involves my family, my friends and all my surroundings. It is a fact I would like to write, illustrate and share my personal experience with thousands of Venezuelans, Latin Americans and people around the world that at some point in their lives probably felt they had received a second chance, in a sense they are no longer
prophets in their own land, but they keep exploring the possibility of becoming what they are looking for, at any cost, the promised land.
Your life is hectic and you spend your days in a rush. How do you make your decisions about roles and opportunities that come your way?
About roles and opportunities likely to arise, are decisions I usually take in a hurry because this is a highly competitive and volatile profession, full of temperaments in all strata of human structure, sometimes not the best suited to my needs in terms of price / value. On the other hand, the options are scarce and one should take the chance that comes along. Often art including awards not directly related to a financial compensation, but when this happens is actually a blessing.
You are a musician / songwriter / producer, actor and you have to learn scripts, work in advertising and TV commercials, also have a program on the radio, and of course, your family. How do you carry on in a city like Caracas? and still be with your family?
With Fe (Faith), slowly but surely. Living day to day avoiding falling into despair, which is common among the traffic of Caracas, personal insecurity, economic inflation, the hostility between the people on the streets and the media-political violence that lives in Venezuela . All this informs and confirms the testimony that is simply and definitely a wonderful miracle to be alive and exist.
Describe a day in the life of big Luke.
It is difficult to describe a standard day in my life because my work is not a routine, but two hours between 3 and 5 pm Monday to Friday when I do my radio program "La Hora del Burro" (The nap hour) a musical call for Hot 94.1 FM (www.laquemanda.com.ve). Sometimes I'm doing casting, rehearsing or playing with my band tribute to The Beatles "The Beat3". Sometimes I'm acting in a musical show or a movie. For the rest I am cooperating in household chores. When I have some time at night, when everyone is asleep, I grab my guitar and start to write a song that's been in my head.
Some kind of ritual? religion that helps? Any additions? A drink before going on stage?
Before going on stage I like to warm up my voice and my body with some exercises. Then comes a moment of concentration and relaxation in which I ask God to manifest His gifts through me for His glory and the blessing of the public and peers. Also drink plenty of water.
Jesus Christ Superstar ...
your performance as Judas was recognized by your gestures, your vocal performance and expression in the scene. Do you compare in any way with Judas and the history of Catholicism?. What parts of Judas could match with yourself. Judas reflex and society you live in? and Jesus Christ and society?
It is ironic that being a fan of JC Superstar's work since childhood and having been formed by the Jesuits, now I'm playing a role of Judas. I approached and digested the role of playing someone who raises the controversial Gnostic and rediscovered Gospel of Judas.
However, for mental health issues I had to clarify the boundary between character and actor, although it's tough because of the intensity required to give life and energy for the musical. It practically takes all of me during the season.
On the other hand is often seen how the president of Venezuela identified himself with Jesus Christ and uses it as a banner for their political cause while labels Judas to anyone who's in a trend of thought contrary to his revolution. That says a lot about the media power and strength of both characters in biblical story.
Just before starting JesusChrist Superstar. How do you all prepare before going onstage? What do Karina, Johnny, you and the rest of the cast do before getting in action?
Everyone involved in the show make a circle of energy, from the cast to the stagehands, just before the show. The director gives us his latest notes and annotations as well as some words of encouragement. Then the group chooses someone to give us general blessing and count to three so all together to yell in unison, which includes the keyword used in classical theater that is "mierda" instead of "suerte" next to the name of the work we are presenting.
When the Director M. Hausmann and Producer Y. Rosemberg did the casting for Judas, What did you keep in mind to show them? Did you perform some role from the past for this casting?
I sent them some pictures where I looked like an apostle or Jesus. I also brought a short film that I was credited the Municipal Performer Award ( "Sed en Los Pies"). They already knew my career as a songwriter of Luky y Los Astrolabios (band that won the most important national festival of pop-rock in 1997 and made the album "Everything's Pink" in 2000). Then, Luky Bienvenida la Utopia (Welcome Utopia). They also knew my work as an actor for my roles in film (Caracas Amor a Muerte, Skin, Maroa, Miranda).
However, Hausmann and Rosenberg along with musical director to audition Salomón Lerner, requested me to sing the song "Oh Darling" by The Beatles.
What are Hausmann and Rosenberg like?, what is it like working with them? Are they methodical and technical in their direction?...or do they give you freedom to be creative?
Rosenberg is only responsible for the production so he doesn't get involved in regard to interpretation. Certainly Hausmann, who is responsible for directing the entire show, is a very methodical with a fair knowledge of the facts when dealing with musicals. However, he is flexible in considering any proposal which is because there is respect for my experience and ability, which he knows I always put to the service of the assembly. 100% committed to the character that I play. Of course we also spent many hours devoted to testing and reading the piece, so that when we go on, my part has been refined expressively. This leaves an finite space for improvisations.
What are co-stars Karina and Johnny like? Anything you've learned from them?
Karina and Johnny are great companions, extremely professional and talented, both have wonderful voices and the rustle within definitely enriches you as an artist, the idea of being feedback by another in order to increase the level of the spectacle. All this is a constant learning.
Where do you go to retract from work?
The place where I retract of my profession is my home, my refuge. It is the space where my energies are balanced.
Finally, in one sentence, Do you have an advice to new artists out there getting into the world of theater and performance arts in general?
More than an advice is an invitation to all who feel that art runs in their veins and beats in their hearts to be swayed to that throb until you find your space in the theater, music, painting, dance. Must to be genuine and authentic in its expression. Only with the honesty of our actions we open our souls and let others connect and relate to us.
