 The Miami City Ballet (MCB) School annually admits hundreds of children, young women and men to educate them in classical dance. Here, they prepare them developing their corporal expression skills, introducing them to the artistic world and later in the future offering them the opportunity to become part of the Company.
Who knows what brought them to the MCB? A particular dream they carried inside, the need of physical expression, wanting to follow in the footsteps of an idol, or perhaps an invitation of a relative or friend. It could also have been the parents' desire to improve their children's education; as well as the desire they have of belonging to something wonderful, or simply to satisfy a personal need.
What is certain is each of them carries with them a dream of becoming the best, and for that they must incrementally improve the training they receive.
Therefore, the MCB has accredited instructors from which the children can learn. It includes internationally recognized dancers and teachers such as Carter Alexander, Geta Constantinescu, Alexandra Koltun, Alex Lapshin, Crista Villella and Robert Rodriguez, among others. In the Children's Division, we find instructors like Kristen Kramer, Sandra Portal-Andreu, and Robert Rodriguez. The Faculty of JAZZ includes Rafi Maldonado-Lopez, Liz Malm and Richard Amaro. Last, we find Yelena Doroshenko in the Faculty of STRETCH.
It is with the training of these valuable teachers that the students discover how much they can express with their bodies, through creative movements, and are capable of transmitting ideas and emotions to the audience. Early on in the MCB training, students will receive lessons through any variety of techniques and movements: arabesque, pirouettes, assembles, jeté, sissone, glissade, combinations, etc. As they develop the techniques and all its exercises, the teachers train their disciples self-confidence and how to act in front of the audience. They prepare them as a whole for a great opportunity, the dream of dancing live on stage, to be acclaimed by the audience and their applause.
The most outstanding students in their category are selected from the Children's Division. They will become part of the group that will eventually make their presentation next to the greatest dancers in the MCB: The Company.
At this time, they begin classes under the direction of Crista Villella, one of the most qualified children's Ballet Mistress (for Nutcracker). In addition to her experience as a soloist dancer and all the training she has received so far from her father, the renowned Edward Villella, Crista has an unparalleled ability to teach her young disciples as well as the Company the art of ballet. From the moment the children enter the classroom they focus their undivided attention to Crista, as if she was the ultimate source of education.
They pay attention to every detail. They pin point every step of each part of the work taught by Crista. Her persona generates in the whole class an active, positive and educational atmosphere; always being patient and paying attention to every minimum gesture made by each of her disciples.
Crista is assisted by Roberto Rodriguez, who brings the experience of his entire artistic career from the Ballet de San Juan, in his native island of Puerto Rico, passing through the School of American Ballet in New York and also working with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater. Roberto has taught ballet, theater, mime and creative movement for 23 years, making him one of the most accredited instructors for the teaching and development of this new group of children.
Crista Villella, in collaboration with Robert Rodriguez, prepares the younger members of the MCB for the upcoming presentations for this season. They show once more the technique, musicality, passion and expressive level with which the students of this school are manifested, placing the MCB as one of the best ballet schools in the United States and the world.

La escuela del MCB admite anualmente a cientos de niños y jóvenes para instruirlos en la danza clásica. Aquí desarrollan sus habilidades, los preparan profesionalmente, los introducen al mundo artístico y, luego, en un futuro posible, los incorporan a la Compañía.
¿Quién sabe que los trajo al MCB? Un sueño en particular, la necesidad inconsciente de expresarse en lo corporal. La admiración hacia un ídolo y el querer seguir sus pasos. La invitación de un familiar o amigo, la pasión de los padres por educar e instruir mejor a sus hijos, la fantasía de un cuento, la necesidad de pertenecer a algo magnífico o de satisfacer una simple inquietud personal.
Lo que si es cierto es que cada uno de ellos lleva dentro un sueño: el de llegar a ser el mejor. Para eso, buscan perfeccionar cada enseñanza recibida.
Por eso, el MCB cuenta con los instructores más acreditados con los que los niños pueden aprender. Bailarines y profesores reconocidos internacionalmente, como Carter Alexander, Geta Constantinescu, Alexandra Koltun, Alex Lapshin, Crista Villella y Roberto Rodríguez, entre otros. En la Division de Niños, profesores excelentes como Kristen Kramer, Sandra Portal-Andreu y el mismo Roberto Rodríguez. En la Facultad de Jazz, Rafi Maldonado-López, Liz Malm y Richard Amaro. Y en la Facultad de Stretch, Yelena Doroshenko.
Y es con el adiestramiento de tan valiosos profesores como los alumnos descubren qué tanto pueden expresarse con sus cuerpos, a traves de movimientos creativos, capaces de transmitir ideas y emociones.
Desde sus comienzos en el MCB los niños van recibiendo clases pasando por toda variedad de técnicas y movimientos: arabesque, pirouettes, assemble, jeté, sissone, glissade, combinaciones, etc. A la vez que evolucionan las técnicas y todos sus ejercicios, los profesores enseñan a sus discípulos seguridad personal y capacidad para actuar frente a una audiencia, preparandolos en conjunto para una gran oportunidad: el sueño de presentarse y bailar en vivo, el de ser aclamados por el público y sus aplausos.
De la escuela de niños son seleccionados los más destacados en su categoría. Ellos formarán parte de la agrupación que más adelante hará su presentación junto a los más grandes del MCB: La Compañía.
He aqui el momento en el cual empiezan a bailar bajo la dirección de Crista Villella, una de las más calificadas Ballet Mistress (Nutcracker).. Además de su trascendencia como bailarina solista y de la enseñanza que ha recibido hasta hoy de su padre, el reconocido Edward Villella, Crista esta dotada de una habilidad incomparable para enseñar tanto a sus jovenes discipulos como a la Compañía el arte del ballet.
Desde que los niños entran a la clase, la atención total se centra Crista, como si fuese la fuente de enseñanza máxima. Ellos atienden paso por paso, detalle a detalle, cada una de las partes de la obra enseñada por Crista. Su persona genera en toda la clase un ambiente activo, positivo y educacional. Siempre manteniendo la paciencia y la atención al minimo gesto hecho por cada uno de sus discípulos.
Crista es asistida por Roberto Rodriguez, quien trae la experiencia de toda su trayectoria artística desde el Ballet de San Juan, en su isla natal Puerto Rico, pasando por el School of American Ballet en New York y trabajando en el Pittsburgh Ballet Theater. Roberto ha enseñado ballet, teatro, pantomima y movimientos creativos por 23 años, lo que lo convierte en un instructor acreditado para la enseñanza y el desarrollo de esta nueva agrupación de niños.
Crista Villella, con la colaboración de Roberto Rodriguez, prepara a los más jovenes del MCB para las próximas presentaciónes de esta temporada. Ellos demuestran una vez más la técnica, musicalidad, pasión y nivel expresivo con que los alumnos de esta academia se manifiestan, ubicando al MCB como una de las mejores escuelas de ballet de los Estados Unidos y el mundo.
